Series Rookie Perez de Lara Climbs Podium For JDX At Sebring

LOVELAND, Colo. (March 22, 2016) - JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche and driver Ricardo Perez de Lara made their debut at Sebring International Raceway this past weekend in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, finishing sixth in race one and third in race two.

JDX Racing worked through the off-season to put together a strong Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge program, and the fruits of that labor became apparent this past weekend at the opening round in Sebring, Florida. The team arrived in Sebring having recently signed sports car ace Ricardo Perez, and having taken delivery of a brand new 2016 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car, ready to carry the momentum from a successful 2015 season.

Ricardo joined JDX Racing prior to the Sebring winter test, allowing the team to take advantage of extra track time in February. The test was Ricardo’s first exposure to Sebring International Raceway and first time behind the wheel of a 991 GT3 Cup car. The brand new No. 02 Cup car actually arrived to the Colorado based team race shop just a week before the season opener. JDX Racing managed to prep the 991 GT3 Cup car in a very short period of time and arrived in Florida early last Monday ready for a grueling week.

The race weekend included the traditional Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama two race format. Ricardo qualified the black and gold liveried No. 02 JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche third in the field of 31 Porsche Cup cars for the first race of the season.

Round one for the weekend started well as Perez quickly worked his way up to second by the midpoint of the 45 minute sprint race. Ricardo continued to pressure the race leader, however he lost a number of positions during some on track contact from another car on the run down to turn 7, the infamous Sebring hairpin. Ricardo still managed to maintain a strong pace, gaining some positions back and finishing a respectable sixth position in his GT3 Cup debut.

Round two rolled off Friday morning, and RPL started the JDX Racing / Hertz Porsche in the eighth position. The talented Mexican muscled his Porsche Cup car around the historic 17 turn Sebring race course, posting fast and consistent lap times, all while keeping the car on pace with the race leaders. Perez found his way to fourth as a late yellow came out for a crash in turn one. Once the track was cleaned and the drivers returned to green racing, RPL made a spectacular pass to third. He continued to pursue the No. 09 car driven by Chris Green, crossing the start finish line and grabbing the checkered flag just .04 seconds behind the second place finisher and only three tenths from the race winner.

Ricardo Perez said, “This was a great first experience in the GT3 Cup car. For my first race weekend at Sebring i’m pleased with the results. I have had very little seat time in the Porsche and i’m determined to accelerate the learning curve. My engineer Luke gave me a great car, it was all up to me to learn the track and learn how this car works. So for us to grab a podium this weekend marks success, and we will build on this momentum heading to Laguna Seca next month”.

“Ricardo did a great job in his debut with JDX Racing. He did the winter test and promoter day, however that was the only exposure to Sebring and the Cup car, this is all new to him. He kept the car out of trouble - which is much easier said than done with such a large field of entries. It’s a great start in competing for a Series Championship, as the key to claiming this Championship is balancing speed with consistency. A podium finish at Sebring gives us solid momentum to start our 2016 season”, said Harrison Brix, team Co-Owner.

The green flag for round three and four of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama are scheduled for April 30-1 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Both races are timed, 45-minute events that support the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda race on Sunday, April 1. Live timing and scoring will be available on
