Goldcrest Motorsports Post-Sebring Report

Goldcrest Motorsports drivers Andy Lee and Kris Wright emerged from a hot and hectic week at Sebring International Raceway with a strong points haul, a lot of lessons learned and a season's best sixth place finish.

This marks Andy Lee and Kris Wright's second start in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge as the series visited the iconically blistering 3.74-mile road course for Round 2 of the 2016 season.

The group gained a spark of momentum early in the week when Andy Lee set the quickest ST time during practice one. He then passed the car over to Kris Wright, who held a solid pace for the second half of the first session and the entirety of the second session.

Come time for qualifying, it was Kris Wright's 2:27.584 second last lap flier that landed the No. 22 Wright Automotive Group Porsche Cayman a fifth place starting position.

At the drop of the green flag, Wright was emerged into a number of nose to tail battles that kept him well within the top ten. He turned fast, consistent laps and eventually handed a clean car over to Andy Lee in the twelfth place slot. With one hour and fifteen minutes remaining, a flawless pitstop enabled Lee to rejoin the field in seventh place.

Several laps into his stint, Andy Lee reported to have lost the brakes on the No. 22 Porsche Cayman. This made it exceptionally difficult to move forward, but Lee held his ground and pushed the Porsche to the checkered flag, where he claimed sixth place.

“It’s been a really successful week all around", said Kris Wright. "I’m learning a lot about the car and the digression of the tires. We had some issues at the end, but still managed to finish in sixth. I know that if we keep this pace up we’ll be up there in no time. Thanks to Andy Lee for the strong finish and to Goldcrest Motorsports for giving us a great car!"

“It was a great week," agreed Andy Lee. "The race setup was nearly perfect, we just struggled a lot with brake temperatures near the end. When the problems came about, we did the best we could with what we had and kept pushing forward. Our goal was a top ten finish and that’s exactly what we got. I’d say we’re very happy.”

Despite the circumstances, the No. 22 Wright Automotive Group Porsche Cayman proved to be a competitive force and fought at the front of the pack all weekend long. The Goldcrest Motorsports group will carry their momentum over to Round 3 of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on April 29-30.

The Sebring 150 will televised on FOX Sports 1 on Sunday, March 27 at 12:30 PM ET.
